Calibration

DLB Air Seeders can be operated by two in-cab controllers type.

    • The DLB AS-GPS Variable rate controller which automatically and precisely adjusts the seeding rate based on the forward speed thanks to an integrated GPS speed sensor.
    • The DLB AS-E Controller which features an On/Off switch and a speed adjustment knob for the seed metering shaft, enabling precise and efficient operation. Seeding operation must be done at a predetermined ground speed, according to a manual calibration.

    Seed Metering Shaft

Three types of seed metering shaft are included depending on the size of seed to be sown. Green for small seeds, yellow for medium seeds and red for large seeds and cereals.

To replace the seed metering shaft, disconnect the tension spring on the side of the seeder and unscrew the two retaining buttons. Take off the trap and pull the shaft out. Insert the new shaft square side first then reinstall the trap and buttons and reattach the tension spring.

    Step-by-step calibration procedures

    DLB AS-GPS Variable rate controller

    • Select the proper seeding metering shaft according to the the seeding chart and replace the metering shaft if needed.
    • Place the magnetic GPS speed sensor on the roof or on the wing of the tractor.
    • Complete the seeder settings values in the Drill settings menu on the first time you use the AS-GPS Variable rate controller
      • Choose your seeder model
      • Select the proper seeding metering shaft
      • Insert the sowing width
    • Select or name your seed in the Seed menu, which will then allow you to save and reuse your calibrations from the library.
    • Place your container under the trap to collect the seeds
    • Turn On the vehicle engine to ensure to reach the same 12v supply when your seeder will be operated. If your DLB Air Seeder is equipped with an hydraulic fan powered, make sure to not activate the tractor hydraulic outlet.
    • Insert the desired seeding rate, once calibrated, this value can be modified as desired.
    • Start the calibration, seeds will come out of the seeder for 2 minutes.
    • Weigh the seeds obtained using a precise digital scale.
    • Insert the obtained seeds weight and the calibration is completed.

    DLB AS-E Controller

When your seeder is equipped with the AS-E controller, you must manually perform a calibration using the seeding chart and according to a predetermined  ground speed that must be adhered to during field seeding.

    The calibration formula is as follows, according to the chosen unit of measurement;

    • Select the proper seeding metering shaft according to the seeding chart and your calculation result. Replace the metering shaft if needed.
    • Set the speed adjustment knob on your DLB AS-E controller to the proper number (0 to 30) according to the DLB seeding chart. The kg/min or lbs/min value has a number which relates to the dial setting on the control box.
    • Open the calibration trap on your DLB Air Seeder which is located under the seeding outlets or under the seeding distribution base.
    • Activate the On/Off switch on your DLB AS-E controller for 1 minute and switch it Off.
    • Weigh the seeds obtained using a precise digital scale.
    • Compare the seed weight obtained kg/min or lbs/minute to the one previously calculated using the formula above. If the two results are the same or very similar, your seeder is then calibrated and you are ready to operate it. If your result is lower or higher than the calculated one, turn clockwise or counterclockwise the knob and redo the calibration for 1 minute to achieve a collected weight equal to the calculated one.

*The seeding chart is only a guide and the theoretical rate must always be validated by a real calibration before seeding, as the density of your seeds will influence the results of your calibration.
